AJIB 99 is incorporated with Enzyme Activators (EA) and selected micronutrients to increase the palms resistance towards Ganoderma disease. Vital micronutrients and and Enzyme Activators enhance both the lignin formation and thicker walls of root epidermal cell. Thicker cell wall with lignin deposition will provide mechanical resistance to the hypae from penetrating into the xylem to absorb nutrients and water.

BASAL STEM ROT DISEASE

Basal Stem Rot (BSR) caused by fungus Ganoderma sp. is the most serious disease affecting the oil palm industry in South East Asia. The disease cause losses  by reducing bunch number, bunch weight and in severe cases death of the palm. The fungus penetrates through the root system followed by rapid progression throughout the root and colonization of the stem bole. Later, the fungal hypae blocked the uptake of nutrients and water in xylem of the infected palm. This process leads to the ‘frond-skirting’ symptom and can also cause the palm to collapse.

The uptake of nutrients and water being impaired in xylem by the fungus, the symptoms of multiple unopen spears and 'frond-skirting' will be visible
In most cases fruiting body of Ganoderma sp. starts to appear at the basal stem.
Serious infection will cause the basal stem tissues to rot.
During strong wind the palm would collapse and cause huge losses to the oil palm industry

NURSERY RESEARCH

The oil palm seedling roots was induced with the Ganoderma boninense fungus using rubber wood block sitting technique, research conducted at UPM
After 4 months, seedling treated with normal fertilizer (left) was dead compared to AJIB 99 (right) was still healthy.
